My mom has ‘16 Civic EX, and a few days ago she told me the car simply wouldn’t start. She had it towed to Hoehn Honda, where they diagnosed it and later told her over the phone “you put diesel in the car, that’s why it won’t start”.

1st off, it’s reallllyyyyy hard to put diesel into a gas car.

A. you can’t fit the nozzle into the tank receiver and..

B. most people drive gas cars, so they’re used to putting 89,91,93 octane in their car and pressing one of those buttons.

Not saying my mom couldn’t have messed up, but what struck me odd was that Honda told her they were going to have to call Honda Corporate to resolve the issue... That was odd to me because usually, you’d just pump out all of the diesel fuel, clear the pump/injectors and you’re on your way. But calling corporate would mean an issue that the dealer doesn’t know about or a code that they haven’t had to resolve yet. Anyone else have a new model Civic that wouldn’t start? And if so, what was the reason it wouldn’t start?

PS. battery was tested good too, so it’s not that.

If you’re not sure they’re right one sniff of the gas tank will tell the tale. If it was the battery odds are it wouldn’t crank. With diesel in the tank it would crank but not fire.

Not all gas stations have different sized nozzles for the diesel pump. Although in my mind it’s glaringly obvious in all cases which is the diesel pump and which isn’t, but oh well.

I expect they had to call Honda to figure out how this affected the warranty. Could be they also wanted to completely replace any contaminated components, and couldn’t source some things as easily because parts were still directed towards assembly lines.

There was an incident by me recently where the delivery truck accidently put diesel in the regular tanks. So anyone that pumped regular got diesel instead. Maybe something like that happened, or maybe they’re just trying to cover their ass because they don’t know what’s going on.

And this is why you keep your receipts. Not saying anyone is right or wrong here, but receipts and the type of fuel that is currently in it are cold hard facts. If those two things don’t line up its either vandalism or the gas station’s fault.

Physically impossible around here, unless the truck filled the wrong tank.

Did she just fill up the drive cycle BEFORE it wouldn’t start? If you put diesel in a gasoline car you would know it within 5 miles or less.

She filled up Oct 5th and drove a week and half before the car wouldn’t start.

There’s no way she drove it that long with diesel in it. Lol They are full of shit.

So full of it. I’m gonna do a bigger write-up once Honda HQ tells her what’s up. She already paid for pumping out the gas tank and spark-plug change... ~$400. So I expect her to get a nice refund plus some from the dealer once they get bitched at.
